Last Will and Testament of William Player

Wilcox County

 

In the name of God amen, I William Player of the state of Georgia & county of Wilcox being of advanced age but of sound & disposing mind knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right & proper both as respects myself & my family that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me, I do therefore make this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking & annulling all other wills made by me heretofore.

 

Item 1st I desire & direct that my body be buried in a decent & christianlike manner suitable to my circumstances & conditions in life, my soul I  trust shall return to rest with God who gave it, as I hope for salvation through the mercies & atonements of the blessed Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

 

(2.) Secondly I will & direct that all of my just debts be paid without delay by my executor hereinafter named & appointed.

 

(3) Thirdly I give & bequeath to my sons Henry E. Player &  (written above line Zachariah, letter B marked through)  T. Player part of the lot of land no. two hundred & thirty six in the third district of Wilcox County containing four hundred acres more or less, with all the rights, members & appurtenances of said land in my (illegible words) forever in fee simple.

 

4th Fourthly I give, bequeath & devise to John Player colored one horse & mule saddle bridle, one cow & calf & ewe & lamb & my violin. Robert Player one horse, saddle & bridle, one cow & calf & one ewe with lamb, my double barrel shotgun.

I give & bequeath to John Player colored & Robert Player colored part of lot of land no. two hundred & thirty six in the third district of Wilcox County, the part of the south-east side of the mill-creek, containing one hundred acres more or less, with the rights, members & appurtenances to my use being forever in fee simple. Hester Player colored one mattress & covering, one cow & calf, one ewe & lamb.

 

5th Fifthly I give to my daughters Eliza Player & May A. Player one hog & cow & calf, one ewe & lamb for each one and one buggy & harness between the two.

 

6th Sixthly I give & bequeath to my daughter Martha Lewis, one bell, one cow & calf, or the worth of them.

 

(7) Seventhly I give & bequeath to my daughter Margaret S. Taylor $5.00 five dollars

 

(8) Eighthly I give & bequeath to my daughter Sarah Hardy $20.00 twenty dollars.

(10)Tenthly I give & bequeath to my daughter Lucy Tomberlin $5.00 five dollars

(11) Eleventhly I give & bequeath to my daughter Frances L. Luke $5.00 five dollars

(12) Twelfthly I give & bequeath to my son Thomas G. Player $5.00 five dollars

(13) Thirteenthly I give & bequeath to the heirs of my son G.W. Clay $5.00 five dollars

(14) Fourteenthly I give & bequeath to my son Ruben N. Clay $5.00 five dollars

(15) Fifteenthly The sheep to be divided equally between H. E. Player & Eliza Player, May A. Player, & Son Player and Robert Player; the beef steers is to be divided between Fannie L. Otis, her survivors. Son E. Player May A. Player, Julia Player, John Player & Robert Player & Mary J. Player.

 

16th Sixteenthly The rest of my property both real & personal whatever & whenever it may be I give & bequeath to my sons, Henry Player & Zachariah Player after they support their mother & the rest of the family that now belongs to her in feel simple and forever. I hereby appoint my sons Henry E. Player & Zachariah Player guardians of the personal property of the named minors John Player & Robert Player, Hester Player, Julia Player & Mary J. Player.

 

17th  Seventeenthly I hereby appoint my sons H. E. Player, B.T. Player executors of this my last will & testament. This July 23rd 1877.

Stone who being duly sworn says that the foregoing writing contains the last remarks and Will & Testament of the property of the late William A. Player, deceased of said County & is just & true in all its parts.
